About

Art is an open door to the heart.

I envision a world where children and adults are connected with their heart. It is from that place of the heart that the Creative Play project was born — from a deep desire to share with others, an experience rooted in playful and creative exploration, while opening a space for self-expression, authenticity, and spontaneity.

My Story

Hi, I’m Monica. I’m originally from Colombia. For as long as I can remember, I’ve taken in the world through movement, sound, and play — dancing in nature and indoors, writing songs, and creating stories that shaped how I saw everything around me. It’s how I felt free. It’s how I felt connected — to nature, to myself, to the world outside and within.

That impulse never left me. I studied theater and dance in Israel, continued in Colombia and Mexico, and later studied Motion Theatre in California. I studied music too — clarinet, songwriting, and these days, congas. I’ve performed in Israel, Colombia, Mexico, and California, and eventually made Northern California my home. Along the way, I also created a fair trade company, designing handmade jewelry from Tagua, a natural material from Colombia — until I felt called back to what’s always been most me: art, movement, and creative expression.

In 2024, I received a grant from the Nevada Arts Council that gave the Salmon Journey its start. I bring all of what I do — illustration, painting, music, movement — into my work, always expanding, always exploring. I still feel like that child, always creating — which is why I call myself a creative explorer. It’s not a phase I grew out of. It’s a way of life: an ongoing discovery, with no ending land in sight. And what I want most is for others to feel that same freedom — to reconnect with their own creative spirit, their own life force, and the world around them.
